4th Annual Warm Coat Event, March 11, 2023, a SUCCESS!
When our 4th Annual Warm Coat fall event was delayed due to supply-chain and shipping issues, we jumped at the opportunity to receive a shipment of coats from Macy’s and socks from Bombas, thanks to a partnership we have with Soles4Souls. Although spring was officially right around the corner, our unusually cold and snowy winter weather had local families clamoring to keep warm, and these coats couldn’t have come at a better time.
Our friends at RC Willey in Reno offered to host the event on a drizzly Saturday morning. Volunteers from RC Willey, Truckee Meadows Community College, For Kids Foundation Board members, and others helped to unpack and sort inventory on Friday and set up early Saturday morning.
This year’s shipment contained mostly young-adult to XXL-sized coats, offering parents a chance to get something new for themselves. Donated backpacks, Bombas socks, and cool items from RC Willey rounded out the offerings so almost every child went home with something.
With the scent of fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies wafting in the air (courtesy of the RC Willey “chefs”), a long line of attendees hurried in from the cold at 10 a.m. Creating a “shopping” experience for attendees, our volunteers cheerily greeted each guest and served as their “personal shopper” to help them find a coat, a pair of Bombas socks, a backpack, and one of the many items RC Willey donated (umbrella, flashlight, or a super-colorful soccer ball).
