Clothes4Souls reached out to us again this year with a donation of 800+ coats from Macy’s and 1000 pair of socks from Bombas. This year we partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of the Truckee Meadows to distribute the items as we needed a COVID-19 safe-outdoor space and a partner well known to the families with children in the community. This was a perfect fit as they just happened to be hosting a drive-by Breakfast with Santa Saturday, December 5, 2020!
Working around COVID-19 challenges, staff and volunteers unpacked and sorted inventory a couple days before the event.
On Saturday, December 5, 2020, we opened the gates to a totally drive-by event at the Boys and Girls Club facility on 9th Street in Reno. From 8 a.m. until about 11:30 a.m. we greeted each car with a warm smile (behind our masks), queried the car as to the gender and sizes of their children, and did our best to match a coat, or at least socks, to each car.
Local television stations KOLO Channel 8 reported the event on the local news and KTVN Channel 2 had film crew on site to capture the event with these two different reports on their website:
It was an honor to have been handpicked by Clothes4Souls to represent Northern Nevada in Macy’s Gives program, providing brand-new, beautiful winter coats for kids in need in our area.
