Single, unemployed mother of two asked for help purchasing blood sugar test strips for her one year old. The child’s endocrinologist wants to rule out a “dumping syndrome” diagnosis and, to do so, the child needs her blood sugar constantly monitored throughout the day. Because she does not yet have a diagnosis of diabetes, the insurance refuses to cover the cost of the strips. Our Board approved a one-month supply with the hope that the information gleaned from that testing will lead doctors to a proper diagnosis and treatment. The product was ordered and delivered to the mother.
