In early August, we were contacted by RyanOpolis Gaming, an online gamer and close friend of a family we recently helped to get in-home physical therapy for child diagnosed with cerebral palsy. With a strong desire to give back and support For Kids Foundation, Ryan came up with a 24-hour livestream gaming event in which he plays video games for 24 hours straight, his community watches and comments live online, and he would request donations for the For Kids Foundation. Sounded simple enough, right? People really watch that kind of thing? Apparently, they do, and they are super generous, too!
We got busy and recorded a bunch of short FAQ-type videos he could play during commercial (well, really food/bathroom) breaks in his 24-hour event.
Ryan created a fun event for his followers: his son pasted sticky notes on him with each donation, a buddy pierced one ear after he reached another donation milestone, and so on. Our Executive Director, Annie Goni-Stewart, joined him via Zoom to share our mission, answer any questions, and bolster donations from viewers. This event generated more than $1,100.
