In late summer 2019, we started receiving requests for back-to-school clothes, shoes, and school supplies. Thanks to local store Attic Salt (aka Fuego), we had approximately 75 backpacks to distribute to kids in need. Local General Motors also contributed more than 30 backpacks, brimming with really cool school supplies. For a select number of kids, our Board approved shopping trips at local JC Penney to purchase school uniforms, clothes, and shoes. Many of these kids had never had a new pair of shoes, always wearing used hand-me-downs from older siblings/friends. Most of us can appreciate the confidence derived from looking and feeling good about one’s appearance–our goal helping these kids was to give them that sort of confidence by supplementing their school closet with the items their parents could never afford it.
