Earlier this month we received a request from working parents of three for help to pay for a G-tube weaning program for their 2-year-old child. Failing to thrive at only months old, a gastric feeding tube had been placed to provide nutrition. Now at age 2, the child was ready to be introduced to real food and wean from the tube–which is not as easy as it sounds. Her local pediatrician recommended an organization specialized in guiding families through this process; the family asked for our help to pay for it as it was not covered under their insurance. We reached out to the company Growing Independent Eaters and received a 10% discount and our Board readily approved their request.
