For kids and their parents, “Back-to-School” time should be a fun, exciting, and maybe even a little scary for those first-timers. For me, it used to mean a shiny new lunch pail (OK, maybe that’s dating myself), definitely new clothes/shoes, a fresh set of pencils/binder paper/box of crayons, and new book bag (what my family called it in the ’60s) or backpack. It meant reuniting with old friends, making new friends, giving Mom a few hours without the kids, homework, teacher meetings, and after-school sports.
Last month an email came in off our website from Vickie Humphrey, employee at local General Motors Company. Her office was organizing a drive for school supplies and chose For Kids Foundation as the recipient. With very little storage space except the empty trunk of my SUV, I readily accepted her offer. On August 2 I drove out to their offices on Echo Drive in Reno to meet the crew and load up the car with awesome backpacks and school supplies–LOTS of them!
