Parents of a six-year-old child recently diagnosed with a congenital malformation called “Enlarged Vestibular Aqueduct Syndrome” reached out for help. The child had lost all hearing in the left ear and, for safety and educational purposes, the child required special hearing aids. Even with medical insurance, the parents’ portion to obtain the hearing aids presented a financial hardship. You see, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Mom is currently unemployed. Dad had just returned to work after being on short-term disability, making just enough to pay monthly bills and feed their three children. With a generous discount from Silver State Hearing and Balance, our Board stepped in to approve their request.
